ive heard so many rumors of people shaving the fins in their air box so it will operate somewhat like a direct flo lid. would that work?
    has anyone tried this?

Yes, the cheapos among us (like me) do it. It's not quite the same as a direct flo lid, but it certainly helps. You'll need a hammer, and some sandpaper (a dremel tool would help, too). Also, on the new lid I'm working on, I primered and painted it to smooth it out more.

I don't understand how the fins would hender the flow of air. They seem to be facing in the right direction to where it wouldn't make a difference. Maybe it's just me.

i cut all of the fins from the back leaving 2 inches at the front, all exept on the side of the actual air hose and i left 2 of those, to me he is right about the gills going the right direction and to me it seemed smarter leaving some for the air to be moved cleaner, also if ure to cheap ( like me ) to buy a whisperlid replace the wind baffle with a 3 inch piece of pvc pipe

its not really that the fins hender the air fow or point it in a more perfect direction. its more like it smooths out the quanities
