  • Exhaust Rattle...?

i have a nasty rattle in my exhaust, i think i know what it is, but i want to get your opinion on my thinking
now, it sounds like the rattle is coming directly from my Y-pipe...
now i was told that the y-pipe is twin walled tubing, is this true? could the inside pipe be coming loose? what are the odds of this?
its been doing this alot lately, and just started to get worse...
also, after driving my car hard for about 20 minutes, i looked under it, my y-pipe had my tranny, or part of it at least, glowing red, and a spot right before the collector glowing damn near white
does anyone know what could be causing this and a fix for either problem? any help much appreciated

yes, your exhaust is twin walled,I'm having the same problem but not as severe. I had a guy drill through the outside, and weld the inside pipe to the outside pipe. I was a 5 minute job, and it fixed it. Peace

          Yes, its your Y-pipe.

I have the same problem with mine, it is a twin walled tube and sometimes the inner wall breaks loose. It can even cuase a blockage which is probably what you saw cuase it was glowing red from the heat.

A new Y-pipe costs $600 so unless you can have it custom bent, I would spend the money on some headers instead to fix the problem.

Mine hasn't gotten horrible yet so I'm goin to hold out until I do my heads.

I have the EXACT same problem.. all the muffler shops thought it was my exhaust system rubbing

We have it narrowed down to the Y-pipe, or the CAT. the dealership looked at it, but wont take it apart due to an aftermarket cat.

Take a mallet, bang on the y-pipe, cat and below.. you'll hear the rattle and be able to see where its most likely coming from. they told me to buy a new Y-pipe with cat attached, 600 bucks! hah

I'm gonna go to a muffler shop and ask to have a y-pipe made.. it may be the cat too, but im pretty sure it rattled before i had the hiflow cat installed.. i think its the y-pipe.

I had the same problem with mine and took it to midas and fixed it for 15 bucks and took about 20 minutes. What caused mine is the idiot that had the car before me cut the y-pipe to replace the starter and never had it welded right.
