New Smog Tests Going to Wipe Out Most of the Older cars???
they should worry more about trucks and aircraft. They put out a hell of a lot more polution than cars ever will....How many of you hve seen truck with black smoke pouring out of the exhaust pipes?
Your right, but there are way more passenger cars then aircrafts and big rigs. And i'm sure that they have some kind of standard too.
Anyway, we had that now for a while where 96+ cars with OBD2 basically get their computers scanned for codes as opposed to a smog test. The OBD2 test is pretty easy to pass though. I can't get one code off my car for like Fan#2 Relay so I just reset my PCm by pulling out the fuse before I went through. They won't be able to detect any codes at all. So for you guys that have the high flow cat problems.

OOPPSS @$#&%# that up. We get people all of the time that disconnect their batteries to erase their codes...guess what, it don't work here...every time you disconnect the battery it erases the information stored in the computer that pertains to test status, during the computer check the vehicle can't have any more than 2 tests that have not ran in order to pass the smog test..in California at least..and with pressure on from the federal gov't it won't be long before all of the other states jump on the bandwagon and tighten their automotive emission laws or risk losing federal funding for certain programs.
I don't get why they are so strict with emission laws. Here in delware we have a oil refinery not too far away called Motiva. Just one of their smoke stacks dumps more than 2 tons (4,000lbs) of carbon monoxide EVERY HOUR into the atmosphere. Thats 24hrs a day, 7 days per week. In perspective this is more carbon monoxide than 200,000 cars put out in one day. Just out of one smoke stack in one hour. The delaware department of resources and environmental control only fines them a measily 200,000 dollars for this. Thats costs motiva $.00617 off every barrel of oil they sell now. Wow, they really got set back. Now that is just one plant out of the smallest state in delaware. Add the whole country to this list and I think the problem needs to be turned around to these plants. Just my .02cents at least.
I can't speak for other states, but here in California, vehicles i.e. cars, trucks..anything with wheels that burns a fossil fuel accounts for about 75 percent of the air pollution here(keep in mind that there is approx 24 million REGISTERED vehicles operating within this state) out of that number, 10 to 15 percent of the vehicles operating account for about 50 percent of the total amount of air pollution. These vehicles are what we call gross polluters(cars that are putting out more than 1.5 times the allowable max of pollutants just because somebody wanted to gut their catalytic converter for more performance or something along those lines) So just based on those numbers alone you can see why it is important to keep vehicle emissions in check. Just about everybody drives a car...I don't know anyone who owns an oil refinery
Yes I have failed for a bad gas cap... so has my dad... it was leaking fumes or whatever.

Yay for Virginia who for once hasn't jumped on the bandwagon! But really, what kinda things would make us fail emissions besides having no cat or internal engine work?

they can't make emission standards retroactive, can they? that wouldn't make any sense. have they done that already? i have no idea, but it seems really outlandish that they would make the standards retroactive. not everyone can afford to replace their cars just because they fail smog.
Hey guys. For starters I’ve always been a big car guy, I love all types of cars and can appreciate all types of engineering. I’ve always been a Chevy...
