  • Dual walled y-pipe??? -->

    Ok, know that it's been confirmed that we have a dual walled y-pipe (on the 3.8s), does anybody know what the diameter of the inner pipe is, and does anybody know if the LT-1 single cat y-pipes have the same design, or are open to 3"?

    I'd like to know this also. I have a rattle too and thought it might be the cat but the more I think about it I think it could be the Y Pipe. Does it rattle all the time or is it only at certain RPMs? Anyways, I'm going to the junk yard to look for an LT1 I pipe and if the Y Pipe would work maybe that's I'll just get it all. Can the two pipes from the Y Pipe be welded together easily if the LT1 does not work?

      With the LT1 y-pipe, you will need to have new flanges welded on. I am almost certain that they won't directly bolt up to the 3.8L V6 manifolds.

        Yes, I just had it done. They torch a few holes in the y-pipe, then tac weld the holes closed and it fixes the problem.. mine rattled for months now it's gone :D

          I'm wanting to know if we can take the inner pipe out, or maybe install a LT-1 y-pipe from the cat to the manifold pipes, whichever would be easier?
