  • How difficult to pull off TB, self-port it, and reinstall w/ a ZZP spacer?

I'm wondering if I lightly ported the opening of my TB, the lip where the MAF screen used to sit against, if I'd get a little better power or mileage. I know I need a dremel, but I'm wondering if I can do it myself or if I should let someone else do it. I'm fairly experienced w/ dremels. also, while it's off, I'm looking at match-porting the tb opening to the spacer gasket as much as possible. last thing, would I be able to pull the Tb off and put it back on the car w/ the spacer myself, or should I have the car taken into a show to do it? i'd prolly have a friend help me. Anything I should worry about if I did this myself? I'm looking for experienced ppl to give me responses about this, like moderators or guys who've been on here forever liek NavyBlue2000, dominic, magnus, ironman, ect.

we seem to think a lot alike, its almost scary.
well, if noone responds by wednesday afternoon; when i plan to do mine, i'm gonna put the spacer in myself, and port the TB (smooth out the insides) i have no idea what that will entail, but i'll post results in this thread.

I just really don't wanna mess up my car cuz i bite off more than I can chew. I don't plan on goin newhere near the MAF sensor itself, just at both ends, and only port as much as I think is safe, meaning very conservative. I doubt I'd get it polished inside, but we'll see how I feel when this all goes down.

yes please keep me updated on how ur doin. Anyone else know about what we're goin?

I pulled my TB off quite a few times, and the most time consuming part of the whole job was soaking up the coolant that rested on the engine.
Getting the TB off takes about 15 minutes at the most, and installing a spacer is easy.
I haven't ported my TB though, I just broke it all down and soaked it in a strong degreaser to remove all of the carbon that built up over the years. Whole job took me no more than 3 hours.

I wasn't planning on messin w/ that area, just matching up to the gasket a bit and removing the maf screen lip.

It's pretty easy to take off. Unplug the wires, take off 3 bolts, maybe a vacuum hose, you should be good to go.

I think you'll find that the opening is matched to the gasket already.

Working that lip down on the front may help. A good rinse with water will help get all the stuff out when you're done.
