Cheapest homemade CAI ever.

That is the stock "arm" with a K&N cone filter glued to it. Having it lower to grab "colder and blowing air" is BS, makes hardly any difference.

cold air being forced in def. makes a difference, no argument about it.

On our cars, my friend has the exact same car as me, he has his CAI go all the way down. The only difference between our cars is the fact its a major PITA to clean his. I can see on an LT1 or LS1 every bit of cold air helping, but please, the 3.4 alteast doesn't.3.4L Red Firebird

A cone filter on a stock intake elbow does jack ****. There is still that tiny, restrictive hole the air has to go through. So all a cone filter on a stock intake elbow basically is just a drop in filter. Buy a whole cold air intake, or make a smoother flowing intake elbow.

i can answer this quite easily....
on my 95, 3.4L i did what pyrokilla did... felt almost no differnce... so i replaced all tubing to the throttle body with 3" PVC with the filter down in the wheel well... felt a lot of difference (a lot relative to doing a CAI install), and heard the sucking noise and everything
now, on my 97 3.8L, i have the SLP CAI, and that makes the most difference... although not $180 more difference than my 3" PVC CAI, but i'd imagine its a lot harder to do on the 3.8L than it was on my 3.4L, due to the throttle bodies...
and pyrokilla... unless you know about how engines work, don't make comments like:

thats crap... every little helps every engine... how do you think superchargers and turbos work, they ram air down the throttle body's throut, the more air the better, and that goes for the 3.4L too...97 camaro
black, 5 speed, t-tops, rockford fosgate cd w/4X6.5\" rockford speakers, 3\" flowmaster american thunder catback with 3\" carsound cat, SLP CAI, B&M Ripper w/leather Hurst shift knob, 5% tint.
http://camaroz28.cardomain.com/id/ianwells100

You are not forcing any more air in by having it down in the fender.
I have my filter in the same spot as the air box.
But the worst part of the stock setup is the point between the ABS unit and the radioatr shroud.
I have had a kit go into the fender and one in this spot, and no differences.
Only time it made a difference is when I ran a straight tube straight to under the car, and it was about .02 consistantly on track runs, not worth, a stray pebble.
Plus in Florida heard of many people who have lost there filter in the in fender types. It does not force anymore air in and the temps are not much different, especially if you acout for the temp of the road.
I run this and seem to pull some decent times, I put the stock intake on and it sucked compared to what this thing is like.
Its all 3 in. tubing...
