  • MAF sensor Screen --- Need some advice guys

I was thinking of removing my MAF Sensor screen. Is it even worth it? I probably won't get any noticable gains would I?

Also, if anyone can tell me how to get the lag out of the a$$ end of my camaro off the starting line would also be much appreciated.

The gains will vary. There are a lot people say that they do it and feel nothing. I did and did notice a little more pickup. Just depending on what year of car you have too would make a difference. Some tend to idle real high while others like mine are normal. For off the line, maybe look into changing your gears. What kind do you have right now? I have 3.42's and I get a lot of people ugly off the line. They are good and keep decent gas mileage. I am thinking also maybe a TC because I have an auto, but want to find more info on those things to see if they are worth it. 600 bucks is the starting price I have seen.

I wouldn't bother doing it on your 96. 99+ seem to get little better results, with the straight TBs.

i'd pull it off and try it, if you can't feel a gain then put it back, or if you don't like the new idle... i like the slightly rough idle and i definitely can tell an improvement in performance, there are fewer dead spots at the beginning of 2nd gear and 3rd... and off the line it is a little better, but i think you might just need 3.42s and LSD...

I wouldn't do it, unless I did a full PnP with it, and had a MAFT+. Jonny985 gained like 20 hp from a PnP TB (dyno to boot, folks), but when I removed my screen it made the car run like *** , and wanted to idle at 1700rpms, causing me to accelerate around parking lots when off throttle. Very scary.

OK then, I won't remove it since most of you say it would be a bad idea. As far as my gears, yeah I was guessing that anyway since I still have the **** stock ones. Just wanted to see if there was a cheap corner I could cut before dumping more $$$ into my ride.

I have done it on my 97 at the track and saw no improvement or slowing. It made the idle a bit rough and caused me to run rich...

The only free thing that will really have an impact on your times is weight loss.

Rip out your entire interior and you'll pick up a 10th or 2 perhaps :D

I took mine out, and i noticed a slightly better throttle response but other than that it is just something cool to put at the bottom of my signiture. Chicks dig it. LOL. idle is a little rougher. still same speed at idle. how do i know if im running rich without a meter, is there a way to tell...

                    Check your plugs.

Iam in the process of P&P my thorttle body right now. Whole post removed, just grinding the remains of it down. Takes a good while. I won't have a 99+ Maf yet, but were see how she runs without it.

hey CamaroRob97, do you have a link for how to do the throttle body p&p? or a basic description? Also, what type of gains have you heard from this?

(just took my corvettes MAF apart...p&p'd it...very nice....just wondering what you guys are doing to the 3.8L TBs...)

Iam just doing from what I heard from other people. Gains? I hope hehe. Iam at least leaving my MAF Screen in.

Theres a post that goes straight down the middle of the TB. You remove the backing plate, then cut the post out then, grind, ect. The MAF sits right in that post, so that messes with the MAF. Thats what I heard, but Iam going to try running it with my stock MAF.

I know there is some kind of write up with a few pictures someone made a while ago.

I might give reveiws after. My car is away for winter now, but i might take it out for a quick run.
