  • building the Home Depot CAI, had some questions.

Well I think Im gonna run over to Home Depot in a lil bit to grab some Aluminum and some fasteners and make this thing. I was just wondering a few things first. I found the link last night from doing some research here on the boards, its a pretty nice tutorial layed out in PDF format. I noticed some people said to use 18in on the bottom instead of 14, is that gonna work? Also I was wondering if people had any pics or any other tutorials to help out. Im confused about the top half and how it will sit still, the SLP CAI seems to have bends on the top to prevent it from slipping down. And last but not least, does this mod do its job or am I better off getting the SLP one for $129?

I think you'd be better off getting a v8 K&N FIPK and have an exhaust shop make a pipe for you. I didnt have to spend much since I bought it all used off LS2.com. Ill get some pics of mine later today. Or just spend the money on a real lid.

P.S. I made a HD lid and its not worth it and it doesnt look very good.

just a v8 K&N FIPK, with a radiator cover, and some 3 inch piping that an exhaust shop made. They had to tig weld the 2 halves together, because they said it was too sharp an angle to mandrel bend it.
Then I just spray painted it.

try this: remove the air cleaner housing and you can see the front of the radiator and the ground below. i cut out two openings in the bottom of my air cleaner housing. this let fresh air in from the bottom. seal off the area around the slots w/foam to help the "ram air" effect. this plus the existing slot in front for air does make a difference. after a few miles i pulled the filter out and you could see the increase in dirt - even bigger than the stock slot!

also, the top cover has some runners in it - GRIND THEM OFF! the restrict air flow big time. use a drill w/ a grinding stone.

                a saw a considerable difference.
