  • Header install question??

What stuff will I have to take out/move in order to make it easier to install my headers?? Please tell me I don't have to mess with discharging my air conditioning system.

Note: Summit has made getting headers a nightmare. If you buy headers from summit and they are on back order, buy them from some other place b/c summit will give you the run around a couple times before they get it right.

I didn't take anything out to do it. I just worked around stuff and it went fine. Took me about a day to get it all done.

The install on th Pacesetterswas pretty easy really. Didn't have to take anything off the cat except the old manifolds. Tey come with directions that give a decent run-down on how to make it a little easier.

I'm assuming you tried from under the car right?

Take out the alternator, and disconnect the AC bracket on the compressor and just slide it to the side. You don't need to bleed the ac system. The driver side is pretty straight forward.
If ya need any more help, let me know.

I'm going to pick up the headers right now. I'll let you know how I do tomorrow when I attempt to do it.

The EGR valve doesn't have threads for the screws. How does the EGR fit on the headers????

Edit: Nevermind I answered my own question on the EGR valve. But I Came up another question: What torque to I tighten the header bolts too???

you don't need to torque them down. Just tighten them down good and tight the first time, then check them at expanding intervals over the next month or so. About at 100 miles, 250, 500, 750 ect. They'll eventually just seat themselves and not come loose. But do check them if you hear loud ticking noise.

BTW - what are you using for bolts? I picked up some LS1 exhaust manifold bolts from the local dealership and they worked fine. Or did you're headers come with bolts?

Ok I need some help. I got the driver side mainfold off with no problem. The passenger side is another story, I'm stuck on the final bolt on the passenger side. Whats the best way to remove the bottom back bolt??? I tried from the bottom but I could get it to break loose b/c the rachet kept slipping off b/c its a poor angle. So whats the best way to get this final bolt off?????
