Man I finally took out that restrictive stock intake. That thing is horribly restrictive. I pretty much made my own intake, but it isn't all the way done with. Right now I have an elbow coming out of the throttle body and going straight down, with a k&n filtercharger cone. It is so much better, but it is right behind the radiator. I was just seeing if I would get good airflow if I was able to extend it under the radiator. Open for suggestions.

I am in the process of doing the exact same thing. You should definately run the tube as low to the ground as possible so you get the coldest most dense air. Keep it away from the hot engine. I would also recomend coating the outside of the pipe with some kind of thermal repelent to keep the incoming air as cool as possible. We'd love to see some pics when your done.
run it the same way the SLP's get run.....to the right of the engine compartment and down into the fenderwell space thing. then cut the bottom open and fab a small scoop to get more air into there, and youll have a pretty good intake.
