  • Have questions about Borla cat back

I had a 00 Camaro 3.8L with the Borla cat back, recently I just got an 02 Z28 and my question is will the borla for the 3.8L work on a 5.7L?

I doubt it. But wait for someone who knows more about it.

The Z28 will not use the s-pipe. Cut that off, or remove it and you should be able to make it work.

        What do you mean s-pipe?

If your catback is made for the 98-2000 you will need a pipe that goes over your rear axle. I had to get a special pipe to go over the rear axle for a 2002. I think they sell it at LM performance as a SS/firehawk pipe.

Will the s-pipe that came with the borla kit for the V6 not clear the axle? The borla kit I have is made for 2000-2002 v6.

I sense a lot of confusion in this thread.

To answer your question, the answer is yes - but it will need some modification.

The borla cat-back does not come with an S-pipe on it's v6 kits. Instead, the I-pipe is reduced to a 2.25" pipe so it can be fitted over the stock s-pipe and clamped down.

The S-pipe is the piping just after the catalytic converter that is in the shape of an 'S.'

What you will need to do is have the piece of pipe that is reduced to 2.25" cut off the cat-back so that all of your piping is 3". If you are just fitting this onto a stock exhaust, you will need a 2.75" to 3" pipe to mate your stock exhaust with your 3" cat-back piping. (I know that wasn't too clear)

Just take the muffler to the exhaust shop and have them put it on, they can make it fit. I don't know if the hole cat back would work or not though.

Sure if you want to pay $500 for a cutout then i would say go with the borla cat back. I mean $800 dollars for a muffler and a cut out for Christ sake have you lost your mind !? I can think of about 10 other great cat backs that you could get WITH the headers for less than $800.
