  • Removing the Cat on a 97

ok, i recently did some damage to my catylic converter....nothing major, now it just makes an annoying rattle when I rev the engine =(

Chevy quoted me 650$ for just the part on a new, stock cat!!!

I called SEVERAL muffler shops and they all said they could NOT touch my cat b/c the car has under 80k miles!!! =(

So I have come to the conclusion that I want to take the cat COMPLETELY off.

What will I need to do this task? Will it sound better?

a high flow cat is about 50$!!

go to any muffler shop and swap yours for about 50 bucks of labor

Go back to the muffler shop and take a jack and a sledge hammer with you. Then go to the muffler shop and ask them how baddly dammaged does your cat have to be before they will replace it.

I think anywhere around here would swap mine with a high flow cat if I wanted and would especially do it if I was buying one of the over priced cats that they sell.
