Honestly, I don't know. But logic would say it wouldn't work as well.

I'm running a 1/4" one on my car right now. Big power difference? Naw, I don't think it was that much. Cooling difference? Heck ya! even with just a quarter inch, I can put my finger on the TB and feel the heat but burn the crap out of my finger on the intake, and thats even with the coolant still running through. I'm going to add another 1/4" to cut off the coolant and run it at 1/2" as soon as I get my lazy butt going (and buy some more gaskets). 20 bucks got me a pretty big sheet here in town and took me about an hour to make(all the used was a drill, belt sander and a dremel).

How thick were Shane's in his kit?
How thick is yours, DEE?

Is it possible, or even smart, to use two layers of Delrin to make it thicker? I guess maybe i would need a gasket between the two layers?

Shane was using 3/8". The one on my car is also 3/8". I know one the 3.8L with the curved intake will likely have clearance problems with anything thicker. I am not sure about the later models with a straight intake. I have felt shanes after driving 60 miles on a 65 degree day. We pulled into his driveway and felt of the TB, it was cool to the touch, not even warm. So I think 3/8' is plenty.

As for quantity, 15 or so should bring down the cost enough. If its less, then it might cost a little more. I'll see if I can put together some numbers based on quantity.

I'm currently working on a spacer .... the sheet that I have is spec'd at 1/2" but actually measures 0.640".

According to Shane's install instructions all you have to do with the studs is "back them out 1/2 inch or so" and get a longer bolt.

Will the studs actually back out that much without falling out of the manifold ?

Hopefully the 0.640" thickness will be enough to allow me to install a nitrous nozzle at a later date ...

I wouldn't use them backed out that far. You also will have another gasket adding to that. I suggest using new bolts. I use new bolts on my car since I have taken the TB off so many times, and those studs are relatively soft. You run the chance of stripping the intake manifold, and that is not that fun to fix.

For 3/8, backing out the studs should be fine, but you can always use new bolts for added security.

Are the stud holes blind? or thru ?

I'm guessing that they are thru if you used bolts to replace the studs.

Any chance you remember what size and thread the bolts are ? (Saves me having to remove them and measure before I'm ready to put the new spacer on ...)

Lets say you had 15 people. What would the cost be?

I am currently looking for a ls1 but I am bored and a cheap mod like this will give me something to do.
