Dee, I'm interested in purchasing a spacer from you.

I would request a spacer 1/4" thick... thicker is not always better. I believe a 1/4" spacer that blocks off the coolant passageway will be thick enough to keep the TB cool. When you start going with a thicker spacer, the 98- guys will run into problems. The problem is that with the angled intake manifold inlet, it pushes the TB downard more.. On the 98 cars this makes for more of a turbulant air passageway and on the 97- cars it pushes the intake elbow into the radiator.

Before I wanted to go with a 3/8" spacer. The reason for this was because I wanted to drill the spacer for nitrous jets. However after P&P'ing the intakes, I realized that this would not be such a great idea. If you were to spray a wet shot from the mating point of the intake/TB, you would spray right over the front few cylinders and soak the back few. Not very safe. With a wet shot you want to spray as far up as possible for max atomization.. Right after the MAF sensor in the TB is perfect.

I believe that 1/4" is ideal. If you decide to go with 1/4" Dee, then count me in.

To recap, this will be 1/4" w/ coolant channels blocked/bypassed. I will machine a small indention in the spacer so that the coolant can continue along its desired path.

Forgive my continued ignorance, but i've done a search on this topic and am still a bit confused but intrigued. By raising your throttle body height the idea is to increas the velocity of air and fuel into your engine right? At the same time, it causes the mixture to spiral for better efficiency combustion? So, how is making the spacer smaller than an inch going to make a difference with this..?

Also, can you explain blocking off the coolant port? Is this accomplishing the same as the TB coolant bypass mod the 3.4 guys have been doing?

          Thanks!

This really has nothing to do with air velocity, etc. It is basically a coolant bypass. It blocks the coolant from the TB preventing the TB from heating up. It also insulates the TB from the hot upper intake. It does a very good job at keeping the TB drastically cooler.

Okay, i'm this close from adding my name to the list! I just need to understand this before I spend the money(this is how I justify modding my car without a lot of mechanical knowledge, I learn as I do). I'm trying to figure out how the coolant bypassing the throttle body works. (howstuffworks.com isnt' helping :( ) I'm not questioning you guys that this will work, I just want to understand it enough to explain it to someone else.

If you want me to start a new topic in the gen tech section to add less clutter to this thread I will.

Are we talking the engine coolant that is being diverted?

Where does it get diverted to? Obviously it ends up in the same place after bypassing the TB?

                Thanks again

                    You have 2 options:

                    1. Spacer w/ 2 gaskets-$40+$5shipping=$45 shipped

                    2. Spacer with new gaskets and bolts-$45+$5 shipping=$50 shipped

I am making them, and there is already a list if you would like to be on it! ;)

I'll include some instructions, the install is pretty straight forward though.

Take a look at some of Magnus's pictures of the URL=http://www.dxsoftware.com/magnus/intakepnp.htm]intake and TB

See how the TB is just a cavity? Also look at the intake, you can see the 2 holes. I will see what other info I can provide later. Maybe someone else can explain it as well.

so did we ever decide on a final measurement width the spacer is going to be? and we have some mods here who AGREE that this will work fine with an SLP CAI with no interference with the radiator/anything that gets in the way on the 95-97 3.8L's???

Dee - I'm down for the Spacer and the 2 Gaskets ($45). I would appreciate to be informed of the length/size/thread of bolt I'll need to use though.
