• Borla Xr1

this may seem like a stupid question, but this
http://www.borla.com/applications/lo..._System/14813/
isn't a borla Xr1. right? the Borla Xr1 is just a muffler that goes into ur system... also, anyone have a sound clip of the borla cat back vs the borla Xr1. Also, if what i just said was true, anyone have any idea what to buy if i wanted a Xr1 to fit my car? like the best sounding setup with the Xr1 muffler?

well with a quick search from a site by the name of google i found this site http://www.suprasport.com/product.asp?itemid=224 to show that the xr-1 is similar to a bullet muffler. it is very loud but if that is what you want then this is a good muffler choice for you.

All it does is slightly change the tone of the Loudmouth, it doesn't make it any quieter. I have one inline with my Hooker system just to help with the rasp. But if I hadn't bought it previously I wouldn't have left it on there, it's just too expensive at around $118 I believe. I've heard a system on an LS1 with true duals with XR-1s and it sounded good, crazy loud but still nice, especially for the track. But remember most LS1 exhausts sound good and most of ours don't

ive heard from multiple sources that rasp in our cars is created by the y-pipe. True duals should fix the rasp

The only way to remove the rasp is to have your engine flow a lot more air; most of our exhaust pipe diameters are overkill for a n.a. motor, if you increase the amount of air the engine pushes through you will decrease rasp. In theory if you pushed as much exhaust through the pipes as a V8 you will sound like one, but we also have to consider other issues. Firing order has a lot to do with it, for example listen to a car with an LT1 and listen to a car with an LS1 both pushrod V8s with similar displacements, the difference is in the amount of air flow and that they both have completely different firing patterns. In the end we can make our cars sound nice, if you've ever heard a well-built Grand National then you will have a reasonable goal of what to expect out of a well-built 3.8L fbody flowing a LOT of air.

If you get a cam you'll have the sound you want. It will turn heads in a good way :D
