  • Louder Muffler?

Is there any way that I could make my car sound louder without buying a new muffler? I love the sound of those old Camaros and other old cars, but my Camaro just dosent sound like a muscle car, not that it really should as its only a V6. But if you have any ideas on how to make it louder but legal, please let me know.
    Thanks in advance!

Get a Flow Tech 2.5" Cutout and put it AFTER the cat. If you want one I have a spare one laying around, $25 shipped! :D

What would that do, and would it be hard to install and is it legal? I'm new to cars, this is my first. I'm 16 and I got a 96 Camaro on New Years Eve. So I have no clue really about car parts and stuff...yet.

Cut out is a small y pipe that you put in the exhaust pipe, it has a cap on it. If you leave it capped it will sound stock, if it is uncapped it will be loud, it won't sound good tho.

I'm 16 as well, and yes a cutout is legal. It sounds very deep and loud like a V8 until around 3000-3500 rpms. If you don't like the sound cap it up until you get a full Catback Exhaust. Little tip; before you get an exhaust system be sure to modify your intake first.

A stock v8 muffler makes a pretty big difference. Its deffinately louder and deaper but not extremely loud. You can also get them really cheap and if you get the v8 I pipe with it you will get some decent performance gains as well.

Listen to T-Punk. A used V8 system would be pretty cheap and sound better than stock. And a cutout is not legal...

So you'd reccomend like a Z-28 muffler of the same year (1996)? If I did that whould the z-28 muffler need new mounting brackets or would it be the same as the v6 one I have now?
                Thanks

if you don't mind modifing some things and getting rid cats I would recomend 2.5 inch pipe with a flowmaster ultra 40 delta flow. it is a v8 muffler and man on my 3.4l it does the trick. At our local weekly cruise in people always ask me what is under the hood and their jaw hits the ground when I tell them it is only a v6 and not an ls1.

Here is sound clip of it, put some volume on it and I hope you have a decent set of speakers to get the full effect.

and yes it is loud in real life!

How much would something like that cost? And was it hard to install?
                    Thanks,

my setup with all the piping and muffler and y pipe was about $120, and that is the muffler $65 y pipe$30, and the rest was around $30.

My setup took me about 2.5-3 hours to install everything, with a few trips to the auto store to get more exhaust clamps and hangers.
