I have the chiltons, and the hanes. they do not agree on the method or setting. I purchased a long block from arrons, and they could not tell me where they left it. They did send a cover you a$$ letter that said all GMs have been set this way, but we are not responcible. I called a dealer ship, and the mechanic I spoke to kept giving me the valve cover speck. I have built quite a few motors, and have about thirty years experience as a shade tree mechanic. I know that this is not rocket science. Can any one help me out here. As yuall know setting the valve lash after the motor is in the car is considerabley more difficult. Sorry I cant type or spell. oh yea it is a stock 96 3.8

doing the cam install i was looking along with the chiltons menu. they said 11 ft.lbs. plus 90* turn. I went with that and have had absolutely no problems.
No lash. Just torque them down while the cyl is at TDC. That is why there is that goofy rocker base.
