• Those With Pacesetters Enter

I have had my pacesetters on and have had problems ever since they were installed. Steering column rubbing, EGR bull****, and now my spark plug wires are next on the agenda.

The Problem:
On the passenger side cylinder bank. I believe its cylinder number 4. Its the one in the middle. The Spark plug wire Rubber connecter is touching my new manifold. This caused the rubber connector to crack and cause my car to run like shat. Now i have a new wire in there but i still have the contact between the rubber and the manifold. What have you done to stop this because the metal boot doesnt fit with the new header in place.

Also the Connection will become loose over time and it happens faster when i do a lot of heavy acceleration. It will fall off the spark plug and again my car runs like shat.

Any input on both or one of the problems would be great because i have yet to run these headers without a problem and anxious to get my car running without having to worry about connections, leaks, or rubbing.

ok, for your steering column, just adjust the knuckle. as for the egr, deal with it. and for your spark plugs, what kind of boots are you using? straight boots wont cut it, 90* (what i use) will work, you just have to turn them in the right direction and secure your wires properly. but what you really want is 45* plugs. i hear they work the best. i have a feeling your using your stocker which your right, on the #4 plug, just wont work. also, if you can, its a good idea to get boot heat sheilds and/or wires heat protectors.

yeah i have the stock wires so it is a straight boot. Where can i get a 90 degree boot? Would i need to switch out all of them or just the one?

As for just adjusting the knuckle, what do i need to do exactly because i am not familar with anything related to the steering aspect of the camaro.

Thanks

the Taylor wires have 90 degree boots. If you have stock wires, its probably a good time to change the whole set, along with your spark plugs.

as for the steering, there is a knuckle where the upper and lower shaft come together, this is a slip joint and this is the part that is rubbing. There will be a bolt on the knuckle, loosen it, slide a screwdriver in the slotted area and pry the joint apart a little and tighten down the bolt again. should take care of the problem. if not, some people have taken a dremmel and rounded the edges of the knuckle off a bit to prevent the rubbing.

for the taylor wires. where do they have 90 degree boots? At the coilpack or at the spark plug? Obviously than they wont work with those metal protectors around the stock set.

thats what i am trying to figure out. The #4 plug is the only problem out of all 6, but it is a problem nonetheless. The stock rubber connecter sticks too far out and in my case it touches the manifold(bad) and slowly but surely heats and cracks causing me to fire on only 5 cylinders (aka car runs like absolute shat). Also the rubber connecter will come loose and fall off. It is more of a reccomendation than something that has to be done. But if your already going to spend hundreds on the headers another 50 bucks for new wires shouldnt be that big of a deal.

Get some fire sleeves. Fiberglass sleeves which slip over the boots and wires, and will insulate the wires from the hot pipes. Most hot rod shops will carry them.

the taylors have 90* boots at both ends. I believe most of the sponsors carry the sleeves, and you 'might' be able to pick them up at NAPA or Advance as well.

If you are looking for cheap new wires you can just get some for the 95-99 3.8 liter. These came with the 90 degree boot.
Or you could upgrade to some MSD or Taylor wires, thats what I did when I got my pacesetters

So the 95 - 99 3.8L have 90 degree boots? Because i am on a limited budget and cant really spring for 50plus dollar MSDs.

Installed some 95 - 99 Ignition wires today from NAPA and so far so good. The reason i didnt go with Taylor,MSD,etc was because i need the car on the road and couldnt afford to wait for the order to arrive at my house.

Thanks Paul Ford for the suggestion.

Now to the highway for some worry free WOT driving.
