• Deep sounding Flowmaster at 4500 RPM!

First I want to say, I understand everyone has their own opinion on sound. I have a 1994 Camaro 3.4L V-6. I put on an 80 series Flowmaster a year ago. It took a while for it to burn up. And yes it was high pitched at first. But now it's been nearly a year and I had carbon in my valves because the car sits in the garage most of the time. So I hit the gas and took it pretty fast, and it cleaned out the valves and the exhaust. I could tell from all that junk on my tips. The next day I noticed that the Flowmaster was louder and deeper. I stood behind it as my friend got in and hit it up past 4,000 rpm. I couldn't believe what I was hearing, it was much deeper and louder! I got someone else to come listen to it as I drove it to see what they thought, I hit it as hard as I could and kept it going. He said that if I hadn't told him it was a V-6 that he would have thought it was a Z28. To those of you that are thinking about getting rid of your Flowmaster, DONT!!!! Just give it time and it will keep getting deeper, like I said, it took mine a year. I compared it to a dynomax on someone elses camaro, mine sounds much deeper and louder through all RPM's. I have had many comments since, people come up at gas stations asking, "How did you get your Z28 roaring like that?" I dont even have the 3 inch pipes. The 80 series Flowmaster is the only thing I have added to it.

It's obviously taking mine longer than a year. Exactly how long did you have yours on? I've had mine on for about 14 1/2 months.

What other mods do you have? I don't think mine sounds anywhere near a T/A. My 80 hasn't changed much since I got it, except for when I added the CAI and after the chip went in, but it still gets raunchy at upper 4k. I've already bidded on a dynomax, and I'm hoping to win it.

Actually its only been 10 months since I got it. Just realized I got it in April. I dont have other mods done to it. Like I said, one day I decided to clean out all the carbon and everything, and someone from work told me I cleaned out a lot because it ended up on his windshield, HAHAHA. All I did was click it into drive (not overdrive) and hit it and went very fast. When I did that, it made my Flowmaster much deeper. I really wouldn't recommend dynomax, the ones I've heard sound like those Jap cars in Fast and Furious. Well thats my opinion. Flowmaster makes it louder and deeper. Just give it some time.

How did hitting it hard and going fast clean all the carbon deposits off your valves? Maybe your friend with the Dynomax hasn't had his muffler for a year yet to let that burn in either. I wish it was that easy. I have continuous carbon deposits in my exhaust.

Well my car sits in the garage for a long time, so it had a lot of carbon, its not an everyday driving car. It did clean out of a lot of carbon because it was all over someones windshield when i did, and I mean a lot. It really did make my exhaust a lot louder and deeper. All my friends noticed a difference.

Mine sounds pretty ballsy to. I had my car running and was talking to a guy with a 68 or 69 Camaro SS and we're just shootin' the **** and he's like who put your exhaust on? It sounds great! And I was like oh just some local exhaust shop. After that I said, yeah it's just a 6 and he just kinda glances back and then back to me and has a hmpf like he didn't quite register it yet and then all of a sudden he whips his head back again to look at the car and says "IT'S JUST A 6?!?!?!" I laughed and was like, yep :D And he's like "holy ****, I thought it was a LT1!" I'm just like, "Nope :D "

So like, how do you clean it out???

Just gas it hard? It requires no cleaning solvents?

Yes, all I did was hit it hard. I put it in drive (not overdrive) and hit it and took it up very fast and high rpm like around 4,000 or 4,500. But mine had a lot of carbon in it. I could hear the valves before, now I don't and it runs better. I've had it since it was new in 94 and it was only a summer weekend car. It only has 44,000 miles on it, so it got a lot of carbon in the valves. But when it cleaned out, it cleaned up the flowmaster a lot at the same time. If yours is driven everyday, you wouldn't have as much. But now I can hear a rumble all the way through the rpm. And you have to give it a lot of time, I've had it for 10 months.

Well, I drive it everyday. So, is there any other way to clean out the valves? Engine treatment or something? Maybe octane boost also?

Well I'm sure there is an injection cleaner you can use, I don't know which is best, that should help. It will keep burning too, so just be patient.

Ok, now a topic i can definatley relate to. I had a 94 and also had an 80 series flowmaster and the only other mod I had was a high flow cat. The same was true for me. I had my flowmaster for about a year and a half and I put alot of miles on it. six months after i got it you could tell a difrence in the sound, lower and deeper tone and all the rice was gone. overall i was happy with flowmaster and soon i'm gonna put it on my new one soon
