  • Found a way to Eliminate Popping in the exhaust

So I was at the gas station, sitting on the passenger side of my car after putting my tire gauge into my glove box. I had one foot on the ground as I leaned over and put the key in the ignition. I felt a slight poof on my leg. Great....I had an exhaust leak. So I went to Oriely's (sp?) and bought some exhaust repair tape. I tape up on the welds of the cat, and on the extension welds that the shop had made me. I started up the car and was at work today when I revved my exhaust for a friend who had never heard it before. I brought it up to high RPMs, expecting a pop, but I didn't hear one. Hey, it's cheap, it worked, and I'm gonna prolly buy more to make sure it stays this way. (I'll try and take pics later)

Dude you can't be serious. The popping is internal. You have to be a massive tool to go out and wrap tape around your exhaust trying to see if this will work.

the popping is a Backfire. Backfires can be caused by an exhaust leak. I eliminated the exhaust leak by wrapping up the exhaust at the welds. Don't be so quick to call BS when it actually works, I'm just trying to help people who are having the same problem as me.

So you are implying that everyone on this board that has popping has an exhaust leak?

Backfires are not caused by an exhast leak. Backfires are caused by left of fuel in the cly that is ignited after you let your foot off the gas pedal.

an exhaust backfire can be caused by many reasons:
                    1.Air Leak into manifold vacuum
                    2.Faulty air injection diverter valve
                    3.EXHAUST LEAK
And for all of you that are flaming me: I'm just trying to help people who are annoyed with an exhaust pop. Sure your's may not be the same as mine, but I DIDN'T SAY THAT. Don't flame me for helping, and this is just pissing me off to the fact that responses I get after trying to help people are flames. If you don't believe me, fine, but whatever I was just trying to help. Jesus Christ, some of you people need to grow up.

sounds like a bunch of people that are really quick to judge something. Listen man anyone should appreciate a fellow f-body owner trying to help out with anything. It worked for you and who knows it might be just one more person that it helps, but i HELPED that is all that matters.Let them judge and let them pay an outrageous cost at a exhaust shop ( i call it DUmb *** cost), you are like me cheap as hell. cheap is good, stuff that works is even better.

Those reasons stated above DO NOT cause an engine to backfire whether it is a I4, V6, V8, etc. Now if you are talking about a major backfire like ear pounding backfire then there is something wrong. Most new engines that are fuel injected do create some sort of pop sound when you let off the gas after it has been reved. I work with engines every day and i know some lawn mower engines that back fire when reved high and it is normal.

Ok. I've sat here and read this thread long enough. How dare some of you simply come in, wasting your own and everyone else's time, and try to bash someone's idea or what they tried? Maybe it worked. Maybe he's not as stupid as some of you "people" think. You people who bash? You should all go to the nearest convenience store, go to the "Essentials" aisle and buy a LIFE. As for Blitz, keep up the good work. Whatever works, works. Don't listen to the rest of these sonsof....
