• SLP LM 2000 Firebird V6 install questions...

First off, Im new to the boards, so hello

Im getting an SLP LM system for my 2000 Firebird, its just a V6 and later on Im hoping to install a turbo, but for now just small steps. My questions are:

1. What comes in the installation package on sites that sell the SLP for V6 cars and do I need it?
2. I want to do this install at a buddies house in a day, is there any welding required for this job or is it all bolt on for a 6?

I just need detailed info on this, I cant find it on any forums and this seemed like a good one to ask on.

TIA guys.

So dont get the install kit and just let a muffler shop take care of it?

Think its possible to get it all on myself and then drive it over to be welded?

Sorry for all the ?s, I just wanna make 100% sure I cant do this myself without welding, I wanted it to be a day project over at a buddies house. I love workin on this thing myself knowing that everything done so far on it was by me, this would be my biggest achievement.

You can always search for these kind of topics as they have been talked about many times.

1. the loudmouth is made for the 93-97 lt1 and 98-02 ls1. there isnt one for the v6. but as with many exhuast fior our cars, the v8 cat backs will fit on v6's.

2. the cat back comes with an i pipe, y-pipe, pipes out the back, tips, and clamps.

3. you will need to either get an adapter to go from 2 1/4(stock s-pipe size) in to 3 in.(loud mouth size). but there is another option, before you cat the pipe size is 3 in. but after the cat its bottlenecked to 2 1/4 in. so you can get a high flow cat 3in in/out($50 on ebay), get the l1t install kit from slp or make your own from a piece of u pipe but youll have to cut it and weld it. all you do is take the u pipe cut it in half flip one side up and weld it.

the high flow cat is def the better route to go as it will improve both power and sound.

the stock 2 1/4 s-pipe will give you a more ricey sound.

you can def get it done in a day. it is bolt on, but if you can weld it as it helps prevent leaks.

tools youll need:
jack and stands or ramps( i only used them on the rear)
socket and wrench
sawzall or hacksaw

recap on what you need:
slp loud mouth cat back(got mine on ebay for 315 shipped)
3in in/out high flow cat(ebay i suggest magnaflow)
install kit i think part #30045(slponline.com $75)
or
u pipe madrel bent(jegs.com like $15)
u-pipe
or
a 2 1/4 to 3 in adapter

One more ?

I know I have to cut off my old cat, but how do I get the new one on without welding?? or do I absolutely have to weld that piece?

it will just slip on and just clamp it. but use some heavy duty clamps, not the cheap 2 dollar ones from your local parts store. you can order them from jegs or maybe find them at an exhust shop. you only need 2. just make sure you make them tight.

lol i started mine before i had a sawzall too!

Just be happy you don't have true duals like mustangs bc then youd be cutting 2 pipes with a hack saw. I did that today
