the magnaflow 15620 LT1 v8 catback is the easiest 3" system to convert your 1998 to full 3". The muffler that comes with the kit is proprietary. it is made as a system for the over axle and the crome tail pipes. if you change to a flowmaster muffler then you will have to have a shop weld in new pipes and stuff. see how you like the magnflow system first.

yes...a 12" or 18" bullet (3") will fit perfectly in the mid pipe.

suggest bolting everything up and test driving for a couple of days before weldeing everything. this will allow for adjustment of system if you have squeaks and bumps. i do not. system is great.

i am not sure about what type of cat convertor you would use. it is easiest to find things like 3x3 cat than it is to find a 3x2.5 aftermarket cat. that could be a problem. if the system is free then get it and get under the car and check it out. you will probably need some work done to fab up reducer to connect the cat.

in otherwords the pipeing will route correctly...but you will have to fab connection for whatever cat you buy.

you can add the bullet muffler latter (easy) if you think the car is still too raspy.

you might be able to find reducers at autoparts store for the cat to S pipe connecton. If not then for sure an exhaust shop can weld stuff up for you.
