  • what is a rumble pack?

I am looking at buying a 2000 firebird with the w68 package, and the owner told me that the car had a rumble pack on it. What in the world is that. Is that what pontiac calls the dual exhaust on this model, or is that some aftermarket muffler? I tried to ask the guy what this "rumble pack" was, but he had no idea either, all he knew was that it had one haha. Help me out guys.

ya i know what you mean pinoyracer. The guy received the car from his father in-law and drove it for a year or so and now is trying to sell it, and doesn't know too much about the car, so any help from you guys is appreciated. Maybe it's just somethin that he made up, i dont know.

Haha, probably just the guy has no clue what he's talking about. If it is something, it's probably just a muffler, just look under the car.

ya i think you are right BiH. but when we started it up it sounded a little deeper than I expected(this was the first time I have really heard a firebird idle) so it's probably just an aftermarkect muffler. But part of me just hinks that this is what popntiac calls the dual exhaust option for the firebird, but if that was true i would think one of you guys would know that.

                Thanks for your help

I've heard my dad use "rumble pack" before talking about a engine swapped nova he had a long time ago, I think it's a glass pack.

The stock muffler looks, um, stockish. Aftermarket mufflers have their brand name embossed on them.
You can also tell by the tail pipes and tips. Stocker tips are wide sorta oval cast aluminum. Look at the tips, look at how the tail pipes were bent...(normal muffler shop tail pipes will be very noticeable crimping in the bends...non mandrel...more crimpy than the factory pipes.) And also, as above, look at the muffler from brand name, etc. Stock is just plain unmarked oval muffler.

Dual Exhaust comes with the W68 appearance package so if its a factory exhaust then thats typical. I have both the W68 appaerance plus Y87 performance package and I'm still planning on pulling that ugly factory exhaust off. Have a Magnaflow w/2.5" pipes waiting for warmer weather.
