    Can a bad catalytic converter cause my car to hesitate during acceleration? Thanks for any help.

    yes, if it is clogged or getting clogged.

      It is rattling like crazy, especially when I start my engine.

        rattling could be loose heat shield, or better yet...the ceramic honeycomb inside the cat could be all busted up and stuff.

        jack up car good and safe on front passenger side. turn on engine. get under there and check it out. you can use a hollow pipe like a stythiscope to pinpoint where noise is coming from.

        A friendly exhaust shop should be able to put it up on a lift for a free inspection as well.
