  • Exhaust dilemma!!!!

Hey guys, I just registered with this forum but I've been reading it for a while, and you guys seem to know your stuff. I just bought a '97 Camaro and I'm going to put an exhaust on it. Just wanted to get on your opinion on who has the "throatiest" exhaust between Flowmaster and Maganflow. I've had people tell me Magnaflow but on their site I listened to a V6 Mustang and it sounds kinda rice. Please let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

As far as I have heard there is no "non-rice" among the 6's for just a straight up catback. Being that I have heard the Flowmaster on a 3.4 I would probably recommend the Mangaflow, refer to the exhaust clip post, there should be something in there for you to listen to. Hope I could help.

like ive said before, my friend just has an 80 series muffler and big *** tips on his 3.4, and it sounds bad ***, no joke, id seriosuly consider that if i were you, since ur not gonig to be going any where fast in it anyways so what is the point of getting a whole cat back, anywho good luck

its got great throaty idle, roar at start, and awesome deep rumble up to about 3500, after that it gets a little rice though ,but not that bad, ofcourse any 6 is going to have rice up there anyway

If you can Cat delete, do that and run 3" pipe with either a glasspack or Dynomax Bullet muffler. It will be really loud, but will also muffle some of the known high end "rasp" off of it.

check this section for other very similar thread. Lots of info in it...don't feel like repeating.

Also fine tune some searches in this section as well...lost of info will come up.

after you think you have narrowed things down...maybe repost (after searching) and ask...ok, i plan on +++++++...what all do I need to plan on buying/doing to make it work.

don't worry about rasp in pretty much any (tranversely mounted muffler) catback you go with (by tranverse muffler I mean flowmaster, magnaflow, borla, edelbrock, etc...where they use an oval muffler mounted sideways under the gas tank. LM and rumbler just use a bullet muffler in the mid pipe...real loud) because you can easily use the clamps that come with kit for original install...get acouple more heavy duty u-bolt clamps from napa and also a bullet muffler from summit. If you think car has too mush rasp...put bullet muffler in mid pipe. deepens tone, reduces high end crapy sound. (still there somewhat...but greatly diminished with added bullet muffler.

when everything is all bolted up,,, sounds good enogh for you...system adjsuted to not rub and rattle...then you can have it welded if you like.

Mustangs, even the v6, have true duals thus thier exhaust (no matter the brand) will always sound alot different from ours.

Thanks for your input guys. Does anyone have a sound clip of the magnaflow system? I've heard one already of the 80 series and like emjlr3 said at low idle it's throaty and has a decent roar. I've got a Flowmaster system on my '92 T-Bird and it's a Force II system and it's quiet but throaty. I'm after a throaty and deep tone exhaust and was wondering if the Magnaflow delivers that. Thanks for your opinions.

like i said though, just the 80 series muffler and big tips, no other piping, maybe that is the key......?
