i've got a set of coated pacesetter headers for my 3.4 and they leak at the ball joints that connect the headers to the y-pipe. the exhaust shop i took it to said the pipe is bent wrong and can't be tightened down to seal it off. i was thinking if i could just have the ball joints cut off and just put regular exhaust piping it will solve the leaking issue. can this be done? i would like to avoid having them welded incase it needs to be disconnected.
i was also thinking i could possible re-route the y-pipe. instead of coming down from the driver side header along the frame then going into the y-pipe; i was thinking i could have it come out and around similar to the ls1 setup. http://dw-zone.gotdns.com/hooker_y-p...pipe-done1.jpg
it won't be this far back since our cat is farther up, but this is a similar idea to what i want. i think my pipe is hitting the frame right under the engine and this will give it all the room it needs.
