  • (Another) Catback Exhaust

I have looking at catback exhaust kits for my Camaro and I have a couple of questions-
1- Which of the following would you choose? http://mods.firebirdv6.com/intakeexhaust.html (navigate to catback section). Summit also has a few cheap catbacks for under $300.

2- These should bolt right up and use all the stock exhaust hangers right?

3- Is the cat welded on or is it to bolted on

4- What is a good high flow cat for my Camaro (please keep it legal)

5- How hard is a catback to install. Would I be able to do it or does a shop need to install it (I have the tools and jackstands). It shouldn't require any special tools right?

Thanks for the help (if you reply please post the number you are replying to) Thanks

1- I would go with anything but Flowmaster. personally I dont like the sound/performance at all.
2- Will connect to stock hangers, and normally they will supply a hanger to connect the other side.
3- Cat is welded to the y pipe i believe, but just look under the car. you will either see a flange, or no flange after the cat.
4-Any cat should work. I got mine from autozone. 3" in and out. 02 sim is needed for most aftermarket cats. but it seems to be a hit or miss.
5- catbacks arent hard to install. Just cut the old pipes with a sawzall, and snake the new ones in, but most exaust shops will install a full catback for less than $100. Thats the best way cause they will weld it all together. The slip fit connections/ clamps will work as a temporary install, but in time, they will leak.

Good luck, and your choice is really up to you on the brand. I have a 3.8 and i know the flowmaster i had was terrible.. I have had a total of 8 exausts on the car in like 3 years, my list would be in order from best to worst
    1)SLP two on the left
    2)SLP Dual/Dual
    3)Magnaflow
    4)Dynomax
    5)Xcelerator
    6)Z28 Take-off
    7)Flowmaster
    8)Stock
Currently I have a Magnaflow, but want to do the TSP Rumbler....

to me the slps usually sound good at idle and low revving while moving, but under WOT i cant get past that fighter plane sound, flowmasters sound fine under low acc and one of the best under WOT IMO, they jsut dont sound as good at idle or revving while sitting still

if u really want it to sound good then u may want to go with borla, though ive never heard one on a v6 they sound the best on everything else, but if u just want one get the cheapest....but id reccomend getting a good one, cuz i went with the cheapest and it was a mistake, i keep wishing i woulda spent the few extra dollars to get a better sound

I just have decided to find the best, if i come across a used system i will buy it, if i like it i run it for a while til another shows up.. if i hate it, i will take it off and put the old one back on... I had the flowmaster for like 4 days.

Pewter, how did that SLP dual/dual sound (you're not talking about loudmouth correct?). I've never heard the regular SLP exhaust on a v6...
