Started Header Install Major Problems

I was undoing the manifolds and one of the studs that accepts a nut for the heat shield (drivers side top front) broke off. Its inside the hole on the engine. What can I do or am I screwed?

more than likely your screwed. unless its one of the ones where you stand some sort of chance of being able to get at it with an EZ out, but I kind of doubt the likelihood of that.

You're not screwed, it happened to me. Just try to work around it and if you have to cut the shield right there with some tin snips or pry at it with a big screw driver, whatever you need to do to get it out of the way.

It happen to me also when I took the head off. I used a EZ out. It might be a better idea to take the head off so you have less of a chance to break the ez out...then your screwed.

Damnit that pisses me off, also how does the distick come out? Its blocking the last two studs. I undid the bold hoding it to the stud but it still is in there good, do I just pull the whole thing out (black tube and insert)?

Alright got the dipstickout and removed both manifolds. Turns out there is around 1/4 of an inch of the screw thread sticking out (it was covered by the manifold. What is this EZ Out? Cant seem to find info on it through google. We tried vice gribs but they wont hold. Anyone have any suggestions? Also, The pacesetter gaskets are not oval shaped like the stock ones, I can still use that gasket correct (the headers are not oval either). Thanks everyone for replies.

OK we got the bolt out using some craftsman deal my dad picked up

Ok, New problem. The EGR wouldnt connect and after bending that pipe so much it tore up top near the connection into the block. What should I do?

Block off the hole on the header for the egr, trying to bend it and seal it completely is too much trouble, trust me I know from experience. I tore the valve off an took the piece that bolts it onto the header off the valve, hammered 2 dimes into it and some sealant stuff and bolted it on the header. No leaks [img]smile.gif[/img]

doesnt the EGR help gas mileage though?

Yes, it does help gas mileage a little. It also reduces emissions and lowers the chance of detontation. But after going through the trouble of trying to get it to work, I just gave up and got rid of it like many others with these headers.

If you don't get a simulator or tuner, yes it will throw a code.
