Lately I noticed that there is a loud rattle in the muffler area at about 1100-1200 rpm. I searched some threads and the only solution they offered was to look for a loose heat shield. I did that and still can't find whats wrong. Anyone else have this problem and be able to fix it?

It doesn't sound like its coming from the cat area though....when it started rattling when I was behind the car i pushed down on the tips of the exhaust and it stopped and then started when i let up.98 Bright Red Camaro
Too many mods to list....check my website

Do you have tips that have bolts that screw into the pipe to secure them? If so, the tips are the culprit. I fixed mine by applying thread lock and then tightening them as much as i can.1997 Camaro 30th Anniversary...M5, chrome 16\" 5-stars Goodyear 245/50R16
http://members.cardomain.com/issycamaroman

Well...I finally diagnosed the culprit...the cat seemed to be making the noise and transmitting it down the exhaust so I could hear it out the tips. It only does it when it starts up so I don't know what the problem is but I plan on gutting the cat anyway....I'm just waiting for my o2 sim.98 Bright Red Camaro
Too many mods to list....check my website

had the same problem, the dealer couldn't figure it out and kept replacing the y-pipe and cat...turns out it was the joint between the S pipe and the I pipe. Tighten that thing down with a clamp and your gonna be good to go.2000 Y87 Bird M5 with mods
http://www.vzavenue.net/~ngeorg/

not pickin on you by quoting, but what's with everyone using bolt type catback systems. I just have the whole mofo welded together. Nothing will come loose and nothing will rattle (except my old def. cat and a broken hanger).

That seemed to fix it. We will see tomorrow if it is still fixed as it really only happened after sitting for a while. Thanks a ton.98 Bright Red Camaro
Too many mods to list....check my website
