  • installing 3 inch I pipe and S pipe

What do you need to install a 3 inch I pipe on a camaro with a 2.25" cat. Welding, reducers, cutting, etc? I'm getting mixed results from different muffler shops. I don't want to have this end up costing me tons of money. One place said that they could cut part of the Y pipe and push the cat back and then attack a reducer of sorts to the 3 inch I pipe connection to the cat. Let me know what everybody thinks. I just want to install the damn 3 inch I pipe and S pipe. How hard can this be. It's a relatively easy job. Let me know. Thanks.

It is a custom job and they would have to bend the pipe themselves. It would probably be a good idea to go ahead and get a high flow cat. With moving the cat closer, what they are saying is that they wouldn't have enough room for the bend of the 3 inch I pipe so they would have to move the cat back a little. I think they have the right idea because to bend a 3" pipe that way is difficult unless you have a machine. I had this same thing done and watched them bend the pipe so I know. They way they should do it is in sections. Make an S pipe, the one right after the cat that curves like an S and than make one that comes to the top of that other curve, kind of like if it were a roller coaster and than another pipe that goes down into the muffler. That's how my shop did mine. It cost 120. You might even want to do headers at the same time, just knock it all out at once. Because it's gonna suck to have to cut and reweld crap later and I think you'll save yourself money if you do it all at one time.

i got a 3" s-pipe done for mine off the stock cat. they cut off the reducer and welded on two 90* bends on in it's place. if you're shop can't do that then find another that can. it's not hard.
