Cost to install catback

I just bought a MAC 3" cat-back system and I was wondering how much can I expect to pay for a muffler/exhaust shop to install? The guy in my town said he'll give me an up-front price estimate when I bring my car to the shop. I wanna make sure he doesn't "take me for a ride". Thanks.

mine was a bolt on system (no welding)... i paid ~$125-$150, don't remember exactly. That was for the cat-back and HF cat install.

mine was also a bolt on system... it's not really as hard to install as you would think it would be.

I installed my dynomax in a couple hours with a friend. Pretty easy install if you have the tools, plus it helps you get to know your car. If ya dont have tools or someone to help, might as well pay for it. I wouldnt pay over 100 for a bolt on install.

Brough a friend to the exhaust shop... removed the Borla from his SS, installed his Y-pipe and loud mouth on his SS, installed his Borla on my car. Total price = $75! Split cost = $37.50 each! :D

OK, here's the lowdown: The guys at the muffler shop said they can install it for $150, AFTER they said the following (according to my wife)...
1. What kinda pipe is this,
2. I didn't know they made pipes like this,
3. We weld just to make sure...bolts might slip off,
4. The muffler (or tailpipes) will probably drag the ground because your car is so low (stock suspension on my car),
5. We can put it on, but if it doesn't fit just right, we can't help you, and you still have to pay $150.

My question now is has anybody had a catback install that went wrong, and how much extra money did you have to spend to get it fixed?

GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!! Any good shop is going to stand behind their work. If you pay for install, they should fix anything that goes wrong due to their installation methods. Mine developed a rattle after a couple months... took it back in and they found one of the clamps wasn't positioned quite right. They fixed it at no charge, haven't had a problem since.

Today I went to the exhaust shop here in town. He installed my MAC catback with minimal problems! The biggest thing he had to do was weld the S-pipe to the cat. Other than that, the guy that put it on was amazed himself that it was so simple. Cost me $100 instead of $150. The MAC sounds deep but the resonators makes it a little on the ricey side IMO. Still I'm impressed. My mom even said it sounds loud! [img]smile.gif[/img] [img]graemlins/thumbsup.gif[/img]
