• I have had my car a week and I want to mod it! Need Help

I didnt think the mod thing would kick in this early but it did.
I was talking to a LT1 friend on AIM last night and he was telling me about a way to hook up a piece of duct behind the airbox and how it will give me more HP, I was also looking at a K&N filter but I dont want to waste my money unless it is going to help.
My car has the stock single outlet V6 exhaust and I REALLY want to get rid of it, I was looking at it and it is all welded, I dont know how you get it off, I dont think I want to have something go all the way back to the cat, I was thinking I could just get a Z28 style muffiler and some Z28 tips, would I loose power? I want it to be a simpla bolt on but it is all welded? I dont want to blow a lot of $$ because I havent even made the first payment or payed off the insurance. Is it possible to get a air thing done for cheep and a exhaust for under $200?
I am not very technical with this car, I havent even bin able to found the sparkplugs on it yet.
If anyone has pictures or is very technical and can discribe things It would help.

Hey, The first thing I did to my ride is got rid of the really gay single pipe!
I got a flowmaster from summit Racing for $89 and Monza tips with Razonators for i think $45 a piece!
Looks sweet and sounds good. You can put it on yourself. Just cut the old one off and bolt the new one on with an adapter and some clamps.

First mod I did was the Whisper Lid, a week after I got my car. 9 rwhp gain, dyno proven.
Second mod was an SLP takeoff exhaust from a Z28, muffler with tips, fifty bucks including shipping. Took it to a local muffler shop, they installed it and fabricated a 2.5" I-Pipe (non mandrel, but still an improvement over the stock 2.25"), for $100.
Sounded better, seemed to give the car a little more power, but I have no dyno or track times on that one. Still, I like the look of the Z rectangular tips, even though my car is a Firebird. And the price was reasonable.

I'm sortta in the same boat as the guy that started this topic. Heres my situation:

I've had my car for 3 months. I just ordered and am waiting delivery of:
K&N air filter
Whisper Lid
SLP CAI

What would be a good mod to do next? Lower Control arms and Strut tower brace? Jet Stage II chip? Exhaust? Is the dual exhaust that comes with the Y87 package good enough for now? Any help would be appreciated.

- Y87 package
- T-Tops
- Monsoon audio
* SLP CAI
* Whisper Lid
* K&N Filter

What exactly is an A4? Just curious... Just an option package I assume? Mines like decked with TA Appearnce package, all leather, T-Tops, monsoon. Anyone know what that would be if that's the case?

BTW, as stated above, I've had mine for a few months now, first things I've done were the K&N Filter and ripped out the plastic for free ram air. Total cost about $50, definetely notice a difference.

for the muffler deal, i got a flowmaster from a super chevy show for 45$, my friend and i just took a hack saw and cut off old muffler. We got an adapter and clamps, and then it was on. I later went to a muffler shop and had them spot weld it and give me nice pipes. Looks and sounds great, and it only cost 50$ for them to weld everything. I also picked up the K&N air filter and hacked at my air box, noticed better throttle response and gas mileage. filter was only 35$, but you will never have to buy another filter again!

Ahh, cool thanks man. Just getting used to the linguo here, I'm used to tribalwar.com "All your base are belong to us" Looks like I'll have to start whoring here too, though, hehe.

Thanks folks, I am looking at the summit racing on line place now, I am wondering, do I have to get a V6 exhaust or will a Z28 one fit? is the V8 set up different and not interchangeable?

My only request is that I dont want to loose back pressure, I know I have to keep a cirtin amount.
When my exhaust on my Z24 Cavalier I replaced it with a nuther one, well the pipe that came from the cat was smaller then the one that went into the muffiler because I didnt get the right muffiler, I had to use a adapter to get the 2 to connect, is this something like I would have to use? also what would I do for hangers, are they included since the V6 only uses one?

ok, firrst off, you probably want to get the K&N filter, cause the stock one sucks. do the free cold air mod, and if you dont want to spend the money on a whisper lid, remove your intake silencer and put a piece of pvc pipe in there tighten it with some clamps, and you will notice a difference in the sound as well as power too. As for the exhaust dont get a flowmaster its more for the V8s. It sounds ok up to about 3000rpm, after that too ricy. Get a dynomax myffler for like 50 bucks. Its a little quieter but will sound awasome at higher rpms, and will not get ricey.
thats all for now, good luck
