I got a 95 3.4 camaro. Although I do plan on putting in a CAI, i do have a question. A lot of CAI's involve getting rid of the stock air box, which of course is obvious in order to really gain any horsepower. The thing i'm wondering about, is what about the induction of water? I've heard of people installing CAIs in their car, and when they drove threw a puddle, and "POW!!!", their engine blows up because of the water sucked in. How often does this occur? Can you prevent it without giving up horsepower? I do want a better performance intake than the stock one, but i don't want to blow up my engine either! Any ideas would be appreciated.

in all honesty it will not happen on these cars unless you try to forge a river or something stupid like that.the filter will eventually get water droplets on it but nearly enough to be sucked into the engine95 Firebird
http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/673250
http://photobucket.com/albums/y217/andrewbrandon19/

me on a good day------> linky

I was just wondering has anyone heard more than a story about engines blowing up from going through deep water. I don't think it's possible myself, I drove my bronco through water that was seeping in the doors of the cab at times water often splashed acrossed the whole hood. I pulled out of the woods stopped at a gas station popup the hood because it wasn't running good. Inspected everything, and decided to check and see if/how wet the air filter was. Well there was standing mud, in the air box and the filter was soaked. So I don't give the water in the engine thing much credit. Sure it could cause problems if you drove through a small creek (electric), but I still don't think it'd blow up an enigne.

hydrolocking is very possible cause it happens often when a blown headgasket is left there. water splashing onto your filter isnt going to do really anything much but like why jeeps and such use snorkles, if you submerge your intake, it will suck in water and that will be that. chances of you ever doing this lambo101, really never unless you do go into a river

An engine can lock up if it sucks up to much water....
I couldnt see it from the CAI happening though. I've seen plenny of trucks sunk and be just fine.
I have a Ranger I fourwheel and when I took off the air filter on the carb it was wet inside on day after wheeling. I've also had it in water up to the headlights, I'm sure its sucked up some water but I've never had problems.2001 V6 Camaro - VTEC Badged, Abbott Racing Heads Sticker, and Loud A$$ Exhaust

BUILT NOT BOUGHT

14.0 @ 96.44 MPH (Street Tires, Before Tranny)

http://members.cardomain.com/6pakcamaro54
