• Truth about headers

Replacing headers will give more or little performace? (having a good muffler, of course)

I noticed a big difference on my old camaro..

But I also did heads/cam/headers and full exhaust at the same time ...and it was a 350.

Do you guys really think there is a difference? I took my pacesetters off when putting the turbo headers on, the pipes are not only the wrong shape, but they don't even line up with exhaust ports. They look cool, and make plug changes easier, but I would bet money that the 00-02 manifolds would out flow pacesetters.

Rk's are probably better, but the 1.75 primarys have got to kill lowend torque. Just my 2 cents.

Camaros with the later 3800's won't feel much of a difference when puting headers on a nearly stock car.
Do some more mods and it's header time.
Now on a 3.4L it is a different story.

if they gave you no power gain at all, the change in the exhaust tone is well worth it. I did my entire exhaust all at the same time, so I cant comment about the gain from any single aspect of it. But I can say that my setup kicks!

Guys, All your coments concurs very well with the oil pan 4's one. It looks like it will not be a good idea to buy headers since my Camaro is a 3.8 99'. I will be looking for a good muffler and a cat back. Any recomendations?

Headers will only work as good as the rest of the exhaust (and intake for that matter). You know, only as strong as the weakest link. Anyone to suggest that tubular manifolds would be as good as headers didn't do something right. The main reason headers work is because of the scavenging effect. This helps suck the exhaust out of each cylinder when the exhaust valve opens. Without headers, your volumetric efficiency may only be 60%-70% but once you put headers on, the efficiency can jump up to 90%. Of course, that will only depend on the rest of the exhaust.

the 2000 plus have tubular manifolds and will tend to notice less of a difference than earlier modles untill major mods have been done.

What information did you keep track off to come to that conclusion? 1/4 times, 60' times, fuel mileage, etc
