Well today I decided it was time to get rid of my old catalytic converter, and well deserved cause it smells of rotten eggs, so what I did was go to a friends house and got crackin.
Whilst he fiddled with the bolts (15mm deep socket for those of you interested in this) I cleaned my throttlebody and attempted, unsuccessfully to remove my o2 sensors for cleaning. I'll get them in the next week or so, you hear that o2 sensors?
Anyway, back on topic. It took both of us, WD40, and a hammer to pull it off(the rest of the exhaust kept getting in the way and that cat was on tight!) So at this point it is out. Next comes good ole crow bar and hammer. I beat the crap out of that honey comb. My friend held the cat and dumped it and I smashed the insides, then he smashed for a little while.
Finished product was an empty shell, just what we wanted. Then we cleaned up and put antisieze on the bolts and put the thing back on.
Final result: Louder, more rumbly exhaust. I don't know if it made the car any faster, but it definately sounds deeper and throatier, and that darn rotten egg smell is no more.
This was super easy cause the 3.4L has no rear o2 sensors(at the cat), but all I'll need to do when I get the 3.8L in is put a 3in pipe through the cat(connecting it to my 3in downpipe and 3in pipe going to my muffler) and install o2 sims in the rear. Hooray for free time!
