Went to get my car smogged today as people in California are used to doing every other year for registration here. Come to find out cali. just lowered the NO (PPM) max from 700 something to 424 this week (i never got that letter?!?). Max can probably fill in the exact #'s here
Failed the first time @ 484 :mad:
I knew the guy, so he told me to get some higher octane gas and we'd try again. Well, I go down to chevron and some dumb b!tch decides she's too good to wait in line @ the tanks anymore and backs into me
So now I'm really mad!
Anyways I go back after dealing w/ that and test again.
Squeaked by @ 422, the max being 424 PPM :cool:
Now my car's exhaust isn't exactly stock eaither so I was expecting alittle higher but this was too close. The guy said he had to downshift the car to get it to pass. My car is currently equiped w/ CIA header, a Random Tech cat, and a SpinTech muffler. I also relised, when he told me he had to downshift the car, that I swapped in a TA rear (3.08 > 3.42) some time ago and I never updated the computer so the shift points are probably f'ed up too.
Here's the whole test result for anyone who's good at breaking down the numbers. Max : Results
@15MPH & 1727 RPM
%CO2 = 15 / %O2 = 0 / HC = 52:50 / CO% = .49:.06 / NO = 424:422
@25MPH & 2008 RPM
%C02 = 15 / %O2 = 0 / HC = 36:31 / CO% = .46:.04 / NO = 711:243
Now why are my HC and NO so high yet the CO is well under?
The guy said it might be the EGR cloged, any other ideas?
The moral of this story is, don't wait untill next week when it comes to smogging stuff and living in california. I really need to move to one of those smogless cities in riverside county already
