  • SES light?

After installing a 3" random tech cat, and flowmaster 3" catback, my SES light is now going off every 3-4 days. Anyone else have this problem? Or any suggestions on what I can do to get rid of it? I've reset the computer and still it feeds me an error like "emissions are lower than stock limits".

Well I dont know if its the same problem but maybe this will help. I also have a 3" catalytic converter and once in a while I get the SES light. Recently it happened and I noticed my exhaust became sluggish right beforhand. I put in a quarter tank of gas and added some Octane boost. After about 5 minutes on the freeway the SES light turned off. Maybe this is the same problem you're having.

Thanks. Its something to try anyhow. I am also looking to replace the O2 sensor near the cat. I also just remembered that the guys who welded my new cat into place mentioned they may have come too close with the cutting torch when they were removing the old exhaust. This might be related.

Your SES light is coming due to the high flow cat most likely, but get it scanned at autozone to make sure. If that's it, then you're gonna need an 02sim.

On a side note, the error code is P0420..which translates to "catalyst deficiency". Guess its time to buy an O2 sim.

Does it really matter if you throw an SES light as long as the car runs properly? I could put up with the slight annoyance if it meant not going through the hassle of getting an O2 sim and installing it. Just my $.02

The problem with leaving the light on is that if something else happens that triggers the light, I will never know it is happening until something really goes wrong. Thus the O2 sim is a good idea, especially with all the upcoming mods I have planned.

An O2 sim is a device that plugs in place of one of your cars normal oxygen sensors (has to do with emissions, and air/fuel ratios). The O2 sim basically just tells your cars computer that everything is fine for that particular sensor, while having a real sensor in place would send the car voltages that would make it think something is wrong.

Hopefully that is an accurate description. Please correct me if I am wrong in saying that guys.

I just installed an o2 sim in my Firebird this weekend. I replaced the cat with a straight pipe and totally cut out the place where the stock o2 sensor would go behind the cat. The o2 sim just plugs into the socket that used to run to the o2 sensor. It was a very easy install (5 minutes tops) and works great!

you can get them at zzperformance.com for about $44 shipped. That site is mostly for the grand prix and such but it works for ours too.

                  Hope this helps :D
