I searched and couldnt find a straight answer. I just ordered pacesetter headers for my car and was wondering what are the best gaskets to use to prevent leaks? i had edelbrock headers on my s-10 and only had one gasket break in 1.5 yrs/15k miles.

Use the stock paper gaskets, don't soak them in water. Surround the ports on the gasket on both sides with Ultra Copper RTV and install them.

The key is to re-tighten the bolts a few times, I would say once a day (if you drove the car that day) for a few days. Try to do it when the car is hot.

I would have to agree with AZ3.8 I used the gaskets that came with the headers and had no problems with leaking from the heads (still have leak at y-pipe though). And definately go back and tighten the bolts daily. They can back off quite a bit in just a short trip.

If they do break, it is hard to find replacements. I just make my own. Get some gasket paper from autozone and trace/cut them with an xacto knife.

I first used the paper gaskets and the drivers side blew out. Then I replaced it with the felpro ones and RTV. Then the passenger side one went and replaced it the same way but that one was leaking so I reordered the stock gaskets and bolts and redid the passenger side with RTV and its been holding up well so far. Yeah I know I have a bastardized setup but its holding up well so far. Only leak is at the y pipe flanges.
I think the key is to not overtighten for the first few days with the rtv cause it will just squeeze out. I also noticed the bolts were longer than the original ones, not sure if it helped or not.
                Just my experiences.
