What does the air silencer do? Why do some of you remove it? Where is it on the car?

the air silencer is the little elephant ear looking thing between the air box and the tb. it basically slows the air flow down so it's not as noisy. we take them out so there is a straighter flow through the intake.
you can\'t get off if you don\'t get on

yeah plus removing it really cleans up the engine bay.

what years are we talking here. I have a 97 and how would i put the intake pipe back in? isn't the hole a lot bigger than the pipes outlet? we are talking about the little rubber scruncy this right? does this make it sound different?

never mind i have relized that i had already taken this off when i cut the air box open so the whole face of the filter is showing. to me no sound or power difference.

A 3" diameter coffee can with both ends removed and a coat of black paint works. If you slowly press on one end and oval it, it will fit the end opposite the MAF sensor and there is enough length in the can to provide a good seal.

I noticed a power difference when I took mine off, no sound difference though really, it made a difference in top end.
