  • Cleaning K&N Air Filter

This may belong in the General section, but I hope a lot of you benefit from it. I ran out of the cleaner solution that comes with the K&N filter cleaner kit so I tried something. I took a disposable pan a little bigger than the filter, filled it with enough warm water to submerge the filter, mixed in about 2 ounces of laundry detergent and a scoop of Oxyclean, stirred the whole thing up and let my filter sit in it for about 20 minutes. All the garbage fell right out of it. Looked like a new filter. Try it this way next time.

Im not sure if this is a marketing ploy or not... but doesnt K&N specifically say not to use anything to clean it besides their cleaner... plus I hope you reapplied the oil??

My only concern about using another cleaner over there's is that they know what their filter is made of so nothing in the cleaner will degrade the material of the filter. Plus its not all THAT expensive....

My dad used to use just warm soapy water on the one for his dirt modified, its only surgical cotton, I dont see how it could really affect the filter that much. I could be wrong though.
If its not fast of loud, its no good.
