Does it make that big of a difference? I heard that is has a whining noice to it. Is it a big thing or just a minor effect?
Then i was wondering what is the best sounding exhaust. I want duals on my '96 Firebird. I'm thinking like 3 inch tips..Anybody know what sounds and looks good?
Get the loudmouth it adds probably the most hp and if you like a mean sounding exhaust, you've found the right exhaust. Some say its all ricey but I have it on my firebird and it sounds great even though the cars still stock. It also very cheap you can get the exhaust and install kit for like 400

Everyone will tell you their exhaust sounds and performs the best. You should look around and listen to sound clips, and check prices to see what fits your budget.
Overall, any intake or exhaust modifications will improve performance, and the whining noise is very minor.
Or better yet, find some cars in your area if there are any...and listen in person. There is lots of info to search on this board for the subject... but you really have to see/hear them for yourself.
I have soundclips of my Ravin on my website since i'm nowhere near Iowa
Good luck... it's hard to go wrong if you stay with the bigger names.
