• gutting my cat

I have a 3.8 96 camaro. I have flowmaster with duel pipes. I am wanting to know if gutting my catylac converter would make it sound better. If you have an opinion let me know.

Well, it's really personal preferance... it will be louder by a little bit, and probably more throaty... my '84 has a gutted cat and as for me it sounds good... that's a V8 though... and I get popping sounds when I engine break... kinda like backfiring and definitely not detonation... just an exhaust leak sound... when it's not popping it kinda sounds like metalic air swirling around sort of sound from under the passenger seat.

It is debatable whether you gain anything from gutting it performance-wise. Because while it takes a restriction out of your exhaust it also causes turbulence in the cat that might not help at all.

That was damn funny

Seriously though, I have had a gutted and now legit cat
Gutted sounded better and deeper but less power
Legit cat gave more power but was quieter
