Another O2 Simulator Question

So here's the situation:
My catalytic convertor has an extremely annoying rattle coming from it. I got under the car and shook the thing a bit, its definitely coming from inside the cat. Now, I don't have 140 bucks for a new cat. I also don't really wanna install a Catco, or a Carsound cat. My plan is to buy a piece of exhaust pipe and weld it in place, but my worry is setting off the SES light. What I wanna know is if an O2 simulator will prevent the SES? I have a 99 Camaro. After searching, I saw that alot of the 2000+ Fbodys have problems with O2 Sims, I'm just curious if I can do this without problems. Also, can somebody tell me where to find a O2 sim for the best price? Thanks in advance for any help.
