  • 3" CATCO CAT...SES LIGHT????

all i need to know is if the catco cat is gonna make my 99 firebird 3.8 throw an ses??? I don't particularly care about performance gains, just that it is cheaper than buying a factory one and that it don't throw a code...i am probably selling the car and just want to make itrun right...should i just go with the $125 replacement or the cheap catco one???

    thanks

    jason

you can get the catco cat, just get a new o2 sensor so they can weld it in where the stock one is. the catco cat doesnt come with the o2 sensor hole so you would need a new one.

pinball, you didn't answer his question. backfire, there's a 50/50 chance you'll get the SES light. If you get the light, you can buy an 02 sim or reset your computer. I got the light after about 10 months of having my catco installed. I resetted my computer and it hasn't came on since. Go with the $50 catco from summit. Also, the 02 sensor is on the S pipe, not the cat itself.

A catco cat is not an obd-2 cat and it most likely WILL throw an SES code.

Only way around it is an O2 sim. which is 40 bucks (and I don't recommend that if you're going to sell)

Go to a junkyard & salvage one. Or talk to some members here -- I'm sure there are some that still have the stock cat lying around.

I don't see why not, I believe that the only difference is the exhaust manifolds and muffler hangers. I'm pretty sure the I-pipe and cat are the same.
