  • Running with open Y-pipe, quick question

Alright, I'm getting some exhaust tweaking done in a little bit, and my cat is being a prick. It's the factory cat (car is a 97, 136000 KM), and it's clogged all to ****.

My performance shop that I get all my deals from is out of town by a little bit. Can I cut off the cat, and not put in the O2 sim, and just drive out there with an open y-pipe? Will the code that the sensor throws make the car run like **** all the way out there, or can I get away with it? It's about a half hour drive, and I was going to just have them pop on the O2 sim there, and replace the cat with off-road pipe. (Having no emissions testing kicks ***.)

Does the code muck up performance at all?

The post-cat 02 Sensor is just that -- an on-off code switch that detects if the cat is burning off everything or not. Shouldn't hurt performance, unless you're messing with any of the other 3 sensors. Which you're not, so you're good.
Do get a sim, though, so you can know if that SES light is for something important.

You will be alright driving wise with an open y-pipe. I don't think you understand how loud it is though, lol. I did it once but the exhaust shop was only like 10miles away. Just make sure that your exhaust shop WILL put on a pipe for you. I don't know any exhaust shop around my area that will do that, other than a personal connection for our shop. But then again you are in Canada and I don't know about what goes on up there. But to answer your question, your car will run like **** with the open Y pipe, but it will not hurt anything on your car.
