A catalytic converter reduces hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide emissions by up to 90% and nitrous oxide by up to 70%.
Basically, your putting out 10x more harmful emmisions then the cars that have the same model as you. But lets reflect on this for one second. Your going to say hey it's cool if I do it it's not going to hurt the environment. But let me clue you in, it's not only 3.4s that are gutting their cats, there are millions of enthusiasts out there, mustang guys, fbody guys, import guys, all kinds of people with all kind of cars. When people know you do it, then 5 more people would like to know how or follow in your footsteps. But what is this all really for? like a 1/100th added to your ET? It really comes down to self centered people and it's becoming a very serious problem. Why do you think states are really cracking down on everything. Take california for instance, pretty soon a lot of places are going to be like that. And truthfully thats what it's going to have to come down to because of people like you guys who could give two ****s about making your home a habitabal place to live in. I don't know about you but my hometown looks like freakin london outside most of the time. But hey, what does my opinion count, lets all go gut our cats out.
P.S. Take a look at our exhaust poll, out of 292 people on this board 11%(31 users) have a straightpipe/gutted cat. Lets say all those 31 people go out and drive to work everyday. Thats like 3100 cars driving to work everyday.
Now lets say that out of all fbody guys together, lets say 10,000 out of our whole country are running some sort of straight pipe or cat. Yep, whip out your calculator, thats 100,000 cars
The population in our country from 2000 is 286mil. Lets say 10million have gutted cats. And yes this is a very realistic figure. Thats not even 4% of our population I think that is being very jealous. Do you even want to see the figure? You got it, 100,000,000.

There are two ways to respond to that...
1. Always use a catalytic converter.
2. F--k catalytic converters, we wouldn't have this goddamn problem if we didn't deforest the entire continent. Thankfully, Canada still has much of its forests left. If you're so concerned about the environment, quit dictating what you think other people should do, and take action yourself. Join an organization like GreenPeace and plant some trees. They DO filter the air we breathe, you know. Even a K&N can't beat a tree. :D\'97 Camaro: GN Turbo w/intercooler, 3.42s w/ Auburn HD posi, Bulletproof 4L60E-HD, stage II shift kit, Vette servo, MSD Ign, K&N, Ported TB/MAF, 3\" FlowMaster, 160* thermo, HPTuners v1.6

just for your info cats dont work as well as they say, not even close. it was more of a political thing from a guy at georgia tech and it failed both for politics and nature. and another fyi, most of our oxygen comes from algae and seaweed, so i say **** the cat.2001 Arctic White Firebird With Black Drop Top

3:42 Gears
Zexel LSD
BMR upper A-Arms
Trans Am exhaust with 3\" I-pipe and cutout
Modified intake
Mecham Hood
Trans Go shift kit
Making rear control arms and panhard

alright well **** you guys, don't worry big bad james I saw that exact post coming, I could probably predict every word you said in there before you even said it. It's not too hard to post a rebuttal like "quit dictating" etc... compared to all the points i've made. This is going to be my last post here ever in the exhaust section, so you guys can go **** yourselfs. I'm done with you faggots. I've spent over 2 years on this board helping everyone with the knowledge I have whether it be painting a car, etc... or exhaust. But I think it's now time for me to retire because i'm tired of all of you stupid idiots. And if I can ask the moderator's permission, i'd like my name to be removed from this board and all my posts to be deleted.

WHATs the use, my mileage went up when I gutted my cat, hey im using less fuel and putting less burnt feul into the air. my friend has a 84 z28. he took all his smog crap off and just went to an edelbrock 600 instead of the stock 750 (he said 750 i dunno) He went from 14-16 mpg to 18-22 and his car now actually has alot of balls. I mean low 14s or maybe even 13s. anyway, les restriction, less feul consumed, les burnt feul in the air. also it polutes the air to make and weld these things to our cars. if it really makes that big of difference, for every cat we punch out we should plant a tree or something. hey if you stop driving your car it would stop polution a little. I have read and heard of several tests that say that cats are actually worse for the environment, until i see some hardcore proof that cats help the environment, I will continue with my thoughts and theories96 Camaro 3.8 A4 Basemodel: 8 mm wires, Shift Kit, Hollowed
Cat(o2 sims), RKSport exhaust, IAT 5.6K resistor, Home Depot CAI
>>>15.375 @ 89.27<<<NEW BEST TIME http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/552491
