How many of you guys found it a nightmare to aquire these headers?

I ordered my pacesetter headers from a local speedshop and paid them about $500 up front. They said it would be in about three to four weeks. I checked back in four weeks because I didn't get a phone call yet and the guy said he ordered it a while ago, so he gave me the number to pacesetter.

I called pacesetter, and they said they were on back order and had to be made because I wanted them coated. Another three weeks pass and I call them again. They said they haven't been made yet but they'll put a rush order in. Meanwhile I keep getting the same rep on the phone that doesn't speak English. Finally, I receive my box at the speed shop. I opened the box and the idiots sent me one header. I was like "Oh yeah, one header, that's gread." I called them up again, and wouldn't you know, I get the same non-english speaking idiot on the phone. Long story short, theys sent the other side three more weeks later.

Putting them on went along pretty smoothly. After cut up hands, a damaged air box and a lot of frustration, they were finally in.

Another problem, probably the same idiot on the phone made the parts himself. Anyway, The joint on my steering before the gear box was hitting my headers when I turned the wheel. So I had to put a dent in the headers, being careful not to put a hole in there, so I could turn freely.

The sound is awesome. I later had the y pipe totally welded to the cat because I used a muffler clamp as a temp fix. The headers are leaking a little I'm going to go ahead and tighten them up a little.

I'm not sure how much hp I got from the headers and Y pipe, but it sure feels like the car woke up.

Was is worth the trouble, yes. I just think pacesetter needs to do some hiring and firing before I order anything from them or recommend them to someone else again.

Well, I ordered mine from AMMperformance and had them in 4 business days.

As for the steering. I had the same problem, but there is an adjustment on the linkage that I was able to adjust so it did not hit the headers.

Their QC leaves some to be desired, but other than that they seem good.

Where exactly is the adjustment...I have this problem slightly and get an annoying rattling and screeching sound sometimes.

you gotta order through one of the big boys that buys lots of them... there not going to "rush" them when there pusshing them out to amm and summitt... the people who order and sell a lot of them before the one of two or three that a local shop will buy in a lifetime.

There is a bolt through the buckle(u-joint thing) on the firewall side of the steering linkage. Loosen this bolt then slide it(the buckle) forward. I had to use a large screw driver to wedge it forword. Then tighten the bolt. This should be more than enough to clear the header.

A friend of mine recently purchased a set of Pacesetter headers for his 2000 Trans Am. He got the jet-hot coated ones and were in his room a week later. Your shipping is fantastic and I was even happier when I found out that you all carry the Pacesetters for my car! I think I may be giving you all a call sometime in the next 2 weeks...

This should be in the Tech archive.
It seems like everyone is just grinding or denting their headers and damaging it instead of adjusting the linkage.

did you guys use the paper gaskets? or did you buy better ones?

if you bought better ones.. what kind, how much were they, and where can i get them?

my drivers side gasket looks like it was blown up. my car sounds like a damn machine gun!

I used the supplied gasket....If I were to use something else, I would go with FelPro. Make sure you are torquing the bolts as described in the instructions. Start at the inside, and work outwards. This is kind of the same as when you work air bubbles or wrinkles out of something, it tightens inside to outside for a better seal. Make any sense?

My problem with Pacesetter is there quality. I had the EGR tube that is attached to the header fall off!! Talk about a PITA. I had to tear the header off and weld it up right, it won't be coming off again. I even wrote them to tell them of this problem, never heard back. I just hope this was a freak incident and isn't happening to others.
