  • 3 inch or 2.5 cat? Inlet pipe size on 3.4?

I wanted the 3 inch but the exhaust shop said if the pipe that goes into the cat is 2.25in it would be hard to weld the 2.25-3in difference. What is the inlet pipe size on the 3.4? He said 2.5 would be the way to go. Would I gain more power from 3in? I'm going to get a Magnaflow/Carsound. Are they any good?

you wont gain much with a 3 over a 2.5 unless you upgrade the rest of your exhaust.

I thought the inlet was 3" and the outlet was 2 1/4" on the 3.4, I know that's what it was on my 3.8 V6.
Just to make it more clear, it's 3" outside inside diameter and 2 1/4" inside diameter. I think the 2 1/4" is like 2 1/2" outside diameter. Just crawl under the car and measure it if you really want to know.
You might could just take your stock cat and chop the back end of it off to open it up to 2 3/4" to fit the rest of your cat-back. I think somebody did that on here. I did but I then stuck a 3" pipe through it too so not quite the same. I've heard our stock cat is pretty free flowing though, just necked down too much.

I am definately enjoying it... I don't think it's harmful to performance if thats what you're asking.
I don't have dyno numbers... but it's a good system. Sounds awesome too.
