I did a search but really didn't come up with what I was looking for. I am kinda new to the 3.4L V6 engine, and I was wondering if I simply block off the egr valve would it provide any performance gain, even minimal? Would it mess up driveability any or throw any codes? I really don't see how it would not affect performance since I'd be eliminating exhuast gases from the intake, allowing more air to burn, but can never tell with computer controlled stuff. Any help or info would be appreciated. Thanks

EGR Removal=Performance?

Has anyone done this and actually seen a little of an increase? I would not mind getting all that egr junk outta the way completely, it was quite a pain to change the pass. side plugs with it sitting there, probably didn't help that it was still hot...The car has 145K miles on it and I just don't want to do anything to it to start messing things up and take away from it's reliability, so is there a reason to keep it or take it off?

Don't forget that EGR is not used under hard acceleration or full throttle. You shouldn't have to worry about damaging anything by blocking off the EGR. I'm not sure about the 3.4s, but on the 3.8s if you block off the EGR, the computer will set an SES light.
I had trouble getting the EGR on my header to seal, so I just had them weld it closed. Just yesterday I blocked off the hole in the intake manifold and removed the valve itself, and as expected I got an SES light.Matt

It simulates the electrical functions of the EGR and keeps the PCM thinking that everything is ok.This product is not emissions legal and is for off road use only!

I want to remove mine because the heat from it can burn your plug wires. It would also make it easier to change the spark plugs. I'm not sure if it's worth the SES lights and maybe any resulting PCM tuning/fuel issue from it not being there though.
I seriously doubt that it will offer any performance gain, it's closed at WOT. You might be able to see some gains from increased flow if you were to properly seal the holes in the intake and exhaust, as if they never existed.

Since the EGR is closed at WOT you will see not gain at WOT. But I know my car runs better non-wot with it blocked off. But then again mine is a 3.8.Keith - 99 'maro - White M5 - bumpstick and boltons - 13.65 @ 101 N/A

hmm, wow, lot of responses. LOL, and mixed ones at that. I'll probably just end up removing it to get to the plugs better and keep the boots from being burnt up since apparently the 3.4 has issues with burning them after a few thousand miles. Not to mention, one less thing to get in my way when I am working on it and what not. Plus I don't mind living with a SES light all the time, as long as I know the car is running right then it doesn't bother me. I never knew it was closed at WOT though, learn something new everyday!
