  • Need help on choosing exhaust set up!

Ok my car is a 2001 firebird. What is the best exhaust with the deepest sound in all ranges?
The thing it has to be able to be put on by me.

I could have a friend put it on if need to be. He runs a auto shop. He wants to put on a aero turbine muffler and some custom pipes.

So what do you think would be the best?
Iam thinking of a flowmaster the one that is made for the v6 or should i go SLP. Ive done the search and it made my more confused.
Iam going to be doing ram air and some other mods down the road. Also is it worth getting header for it. Since it has the tubular ones stock? Thanks!

Please post any ideas and all ideas. Also i want to hear any options or anything you have to say!

Alot of guys here would recommend the flowmaster 80 series. I had one installed for 2 years, but wanted something a little quieter, so I went with dynomax.

I'd go with a used borla.

Personally I hate the sound of a Flowmaster...its cheap, but I would stay away from it myself...sounds aweful in the higher range. I have a borla cat-back and let me tell you...it's mean as hell. I can only imagine what it'll sound like after I put on some headers. Can't wait!!! So in my opinion get the borla...(they look the best to!!!) :D

I would go borla. But its to high priced for me. I want something that is no $600 bucks! Since ill be getting a Transam ws6 in a little over a year! Iam keeping the v6 just useing it as my daily driver.

So does the v6 model flowmaster get ricey? I dont rev my car or race it!

If you dont rev your car or ever race it then flowmaster would probably be alright. My friend has the flowmaster set-up on his 99 camaro and it sounds alright just idling or normal driving...but I cant stand the sound of it when he gets on it. But if you're getting a ws6 soon i dont know how much i'd worry about it all together...just save your money and buy a borla exhaust for that monster....a trans am with borla exhaust is the meanest thing around...and by then you could buy it...why go half assed...go all the way :D

I have dynomax, I really like it. I've heard very good things about edlebrock. Personally I don't like flowmaster.

I've had them all and they all sound lke crap. Borla and Dynomax sound the best out of the most popular choices.

If the flowmaster is too loud or buzz-sounding, try the edelbrock. I like it for myself, anyway.

If you're really all about flowmaster then I say go for it I guess....but I hope you don't complain about the things everyone else has...well a lot of other people anyway. Good luck man. Hope you're happy with the set-up you choose...and if youre not atleast you arent out 600 bucks right?

I say Dynomax or take off z28 exhaust. The flowmaster everybody and there mother has it down here. It sounds too hollow for my taste. A 3inch?? That is a bit much for V6. A lot of people say something about losing some bottom end since there is not any backpressure. Not too sure, but do a search and it should pop up.

I have 3inch cat-back and haven't had any problems...really pleased with it acctually. If you're going to do a cat-back I would definately suggest going 3inch regardless of which brand you decide to go with.

Yea i figure Flowmaster cause i can get it cheap. So if i dont like it iam not out to much. Then ill go with something better. Might even go with borla exhaust system down the road. But i figure i will try the flowmaster first. Ive heard a few cars with the system and it sounded dam good to me. Plus ill be adding headers probley down the road and ram air hood in about 2 months and some other mods. I dont think ill lose low end i have to much with my 3.42 gears.
